Nurturing Talent In The Games Industry

10/13/2020

Growth is of course a very important metric for any company. However, growth for us does not only mean increasing numbers of employees or products. We also want to grow with our players. This means that we want to always keep in-tune with the latest technological developments, and also that we keep working constantly on our games to make them accessible for all players. We want to make sure that our games can surprise our players with new events and content while at the same time staying open for everyone. So, before we can make sure that we are offering the best experience for our players, we must look for talented people who enjoy games just as much as we do and who bring with them expertise in the areas of game design & development, product management and tech. The European market is competitive, so we ‘re investing a lot to support the development and growth of our staff.

In the ongoing effort to both grow as a company and to grow our employees as individuals we always strive to offer as much support and learning possibilities as we can. While offering the possibility for external trainings that support the existing skillset, we also offer internal training to share knowledge among our colleagues. Moreover, we always work towards an excellent company culture and environment by working on communication, culture, and employee satisfaction. In order to maintain a healthy environment for all our colleagues we always work on improving our system on career planning to make sure everyone has a chance to live up to their potential and grow as much as possible.

We also have clear expectations on what current talents are looking for, and how we can cater to that. In the modern competitive world, employees are looking for empowerment in their work environment. They want to express their own ideas and creativity and to combine their passion for their work with their private lives, families and friends. They need to feel valued and we are trying to cater to that by giving them freedom for their creativity and by offering a great work-life balance, making sure they can work flexible hours and organize their workload.

We ensure they feel valued by announcing and celebrating anniversaries and offering other benefits for their personal wellbeing like sports programs, fresh fruit and drinks. Another way to make employees feel valued and trusted is to let them know their impact on their team’s performance and the company’s overall progress. Our employees have great opportunities to grow as we offer the possibility to take on responsibility quickly. We encourage them to become experts in their own field, while at the same time leaving them the freedom to gain experience in new fields.

Implementing innovative HR best practices at Bigpoint does not is not always about going forward but doing things differently. Our HR department tries to automatize a lot of the processes with the support of technology. Nevertheless, we still treat our employees as customers and never forget the people behind it. It is important that we can act most efficiently while still keeping a personal approach to our services. We are trying to implement a lot of systems to support the employees’ development without sticking to a “One-size-fits-all” approach but with focus on individual needs, especially when it comes to Learning and Development.

Something we are trying to do is give our employees a voice by doing Work Health Surveys within our Employee-Health-Program. This allows us to identify problems or origins of stress which can then be tackled in workshops, where solutions to those problems are being discussed and later integrated.

For anyone interested in joining Bigpoint, I’d suggest thinking about doubling down on your skills and attributes, and keep an eye on our website and LinkedIn, as new positions are becoming available every day.
